PM has announced to the world that five commitments or Amrit-tatva that India would meet as it works ‘very hard’ to tackle the climate change related issues.

  1. By 2030, India will increase its non-fossil capacity to 500 GW.
  2. By 2030, India will fulfill 50% of its energy requirements with non-renewable energy.
  3. India will reduce 1 billion tonne of the total projected carbon emissions between now and 2030.
  4. By 2030, India will reduce its economy’s carbon intensity to less than 45%.
  5. India will achieve the target of net zero emissions by 2070.

PM said he came as a representative of a culture that gave the message of ‘Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah’ means that everyone should be happy. India has 17% of the world’s population but is its responsibility in emissions has only been 5%, still India has left no stone unturned to fulfill its obligation.

Steps taken by India:

  1. Today India is at number four in the world in installed renewable energy capacity. India’s non-fossil fuel energy has increased by more than 25% in the last 7 years. And now it has reached 40 percent of the energy mix.
  2. Indian railway system has set itself a target of making itself ‘Net Zero’ by 2030.This initiative alone will lead to a reduction of 60 million tonnes of emissions annually. 
  3. India’s massive LED bulb campaign is reducing emissions by 40 million tonnes annually.
  4. India initiated International Solar alliance, a coalition for disaster resilient infrastructure for climate adaptation.

The one word Lifestyle For Environment (LIFE) should be taken forward as a campaign/movement. This can become a mass movement of Environmental Conscious Life Style. There is a need of MindFul and Deliberate Utilization, instead of Mindless and Destructive Consumption. These movements together can set goals that can revolutionize many sectors such and diverse areas such as fishing, agriculture, wellness, Dietary Choices, Packaging, Housing, Hospatility, Tourism, Clothing, Fashion, Water management and Energy.
